After seven and half years together, June 27, 2020 begins forever! Several years ago, Grant and Abigail met at Baylor University. In January of 2012, Abigail had just joined Tri Delta, and her first date event was a blind date within her pledge class called Sister Mister. Abigail's pledge sister, Jin, drew her name and asked her what kind of guy she wanted to be set up with. Her only request was that he would be tall. Lo and behold, Jin knew of a 6'8" guy named Grant, and set him up with Abigail for the event. It was held at a roller skating rink, and Grant was very impressed with Abigail because she had brought her own roller blades and proceeded to win all of the races that were held that evening. He thought she was very pretty, and liked her competitive nature. She thought he was cute, funny, and liked that Grant was very tall. After the date event, Grant asked Abigail on their real first date to Poppa Rollo's Pizza. They had a great time, but Grant wasn't sure that Abigail liked him as much as he liked her. Abigail wasn't sure that he really liked her, and so they lost touch for the rest of that semester. Luckily Grant and Abigail ran into each other during Greek Week at the start of the fall semester and the rest is history... They continued dating the rest of their time at Baylor and supported one another in their studies until their college graduations. Afterward, Grant took an electrical engineering job in Dallas, and Abigail went to graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. Then they spent the next three and half years dating long distance through Grant moving to different Texas cities, Abigail's long-term internship in Los Angeles after graduate school, and both finding new Church families to support them. They were both very grateful when God (finally!) brought them back to the same city in early 2018. Grant and Abigail were both living and working in Austin, TX when he started picking up on hints that she was (finally!) ready to take the next step and move towards marriage. Grant started planning to propose on Baylor's campus and Abigail's mom helped him secretly plan an engagement party at one of their favorite restaurants in Waco, 135 Prime. In May, Grant and Abigail returned to Waco to reminisce on their college memories, shop and boutiques and eat at some of the restaurants they missed from their college days. On the afternoon of Saturday May 11th, Grant and Abigail were taking a walk on Baylor's campus near the Bear Habitat, and they decided to sit on one of Abigail's favorite green and gold swings. They reminisced on their time at Baylor and decided to continue walking down Fountain Mall when Grant suggested that they get their picture taken in front of the new fountain (which Abigail was on the committee for and helped plan during her time at Baylor). They asked some passersby to take their photo, and afterward, before she could grab her jacket and purse that she had set down, Grant told Abigail that he wanted to ask her a question. That was when she realized what was about to happen. Grant got down on one knee, pulled out the ring box hidden in his sock, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. She said yes!! They then enjoyed an evening at 135 Prime with family and friends to celebrate their engagement. Above all, God has been faithful to both of them throughout their journey and they have learned a lot about themselves and one another. They are excited to begin a new chapter in their lives together, at last!
