Derek and Amy met the millennial way on the dating app Bumble. After a couple weeks of texting on the app, they were able to align their schedules to meet in person. They had their first date at the end of June 2018. Amy knew that Derek was different than all the others when he showed up at her apartment with flowers and her favorite chocolates after she got rerouted and delayed two-days trying to get home from Europe. Throughout the year, Derek continued to surprise her, including gathering all her friends together to throw her a surprise 35th birthday party. Derek was one of the most kind and thoughtful people Amy had ever met, and such an amazing Dad to Mason. Amy knew she couldn't let this one go! Derek knew Amy was the one when after a couple short months of dating she surprised him with a weekend getaway to Portland to see his favorite basketball player, LeBron James, play in person for the 1st time.Those acts of thoughtfulness and selflessness, along with her hilarious sense of humor, are just a couple reasons why he knew Amy was his perfect match! Derek proposed Labor Day weekend 2019 at Benson Vineyards in Chelan (just down the street from their wedding venue) surrounded by friends.
