Wedding Date on Jul 7, 2018

Jarrett and his crew of friends were the cool kids who held full time jobs during the day and promoted the hottest parties in NYC at night. A close friend of mine dated one of Jarrett’s best friends in 2006. We were introduced to each other during that time but I was away in college for the majority of the year so we only crossed paths in social settings. We never had any indepth interactions until 2015 when we found ourselves seated next to eachother at an intimate late night gathering. Following that night, Jarrett called me a few times begging me to come out to parties to which I politely declined - it was a school night. He was persistent and followed up for a dinner and a movie date on a Saturday. Since that day we've been inseparable. As an avid traveler and Brooklyn beach kid who spent my formative years in Manhattan Beach, it was only natural to have an outdoor wedding that had some connection to the ocean. We envisioned a destination wedding would be a wonderful opportunity for our guests to experience a foreign country with new people many of whom would become longtime friends. We went for a fun, romantic elegance and colorful beach formal wedding. While the wedding was modern we were sure to incorporate traditional touches throughout the day. We chose a eco-friendly resort that was emersed in nature because we wanted to take our guests out of their normal element to foster relaxation ensuring that they would be “present” throughout the wedding experience. With 59 guests in tow, the beauty of the remote location allowed our guests to indulge and get to know one another. Being in an unfamiliar and exotic locale facilitated the peace + love + chill atmosphere, social and nature connections that we desired. Our wedding was originally planned to take place on the same day in Vieques, PR and due to hurricane Maria we were forced to re-plan the wedding and pick a new location. Luckily, SPG offered to move us to any resort in their family and most of our pre-booked vendors (hair, makeup, photographer) were willing to fly to the new wedding location. To culminate our perfect wedding day, the "sky opened" around 11:30pm that night with a roaring thunderstorm forcing us to move the final hour of our reception to the resort’s lobby bar. The lobby décor was grand as it features vibrant artwork of the local Huichol community. DJ Wonder, who we flew in from New York for the occasion, kept the party going way into the morning hours as the resort graciously extended our open bar and permitted our guests to take over the space. Everyone had a blast as we danced off the delicious food we consumed throughout the day. Judging from the amount of shoes and various items of clothing collected by the staff at the end of reception, we know the night was an epic success! Our advice to a couple planning their big day, would be to "not sweat the small stuff". The union is the most important aspect of the wedding and as long as that is solid the wedding will be a success. Brides should start planning early so they don't get stressed and look into hiring a day of event coordinator which is a useful resource and stress reliever and they are not as expensive as hiring a wedding planner. We worked with Veil & Vinyls and had a wonderful experience!
