Kate and Justin first met by total chance walking into work from the parking lot at 22 Frederick St. in Kitchener. Justin was immediately taken in by the beauty of Kate and immediately engaged in conversation as he had never seen this sort of beauty at the office. After some back-and-forth, the next few months passed without any sort of contact. Then, a fellow employee named came to Justin's office to tell him that there was someone who worked for the company who was interested in him. The conversation continued and eventually (after some screw-ups on Justin's end) the two finally got together for a lunch date. Both parties quickly realized there was something special here and continued to date for the next few months.
An unthinkable thing then happened in the world as we were thrust into a global pandemic. Justin had just bought a house and due to the lockdown, had zero furniture with the exception of a dining room table and a spare bed. Kate had just made the decision to move to a local apartment as moving in together at this point didn't seem like an option.
The two then made the decision that they would rather be in isolation together in the house rather than be a part. This moved them down the relationship timeline and both came to the conclusion that the other just might be the one.
Fast-forward to October 17, 2020... Kate and Justin decided to take a day trip with their puppy Daisy to Chudleigh's Apple Orchard, the site of one of their first dates. It was about an hour into the date that Justin, while walking with the trio in the orchard, got down on one knee and asked Kate if she would marry him... she said YES!
They started off their wedding weekend with a wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner at Langdon Hall in Cambridge, Ontario. Kate's family is not local, so it was especially special to have everyone together, and they took their time chatting, hanging out and reconnecting with their loved ones.
The morning of their wedding, Kate woke up at Langdon Hall, and Justin was at his parent's house just down the road in Cambridge. They began getting ready along with their favourite people as they sipped on champagne and tried to keep their nerves at bay. It was surprisingly calm in both places as the bride and groom got ready to see each other. They shared a first look at Langdon Hall, and you could tell right away that they were happy to be together and it was going to be a good day.
Kate and Justin were married in the same chapel that Justin's parents did in 1978. The chapel is at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and was built in the 1700s and has been kept as a relic, so it looks the same as it did in 1978. Their officiant was a long-time friend of Kate's family, and the old church again held a handful of their closest people. It was an emotional ceremony with vows that gave everyone a glimpse into their relationship, encouragement from the officiant that had everyone laughing and many people crying, and a harp playing throughout.
After the ceremony, the couple took off in Justin's dad's 1989 Mercedes S500 convertible and relaxed for a few hours before joining the cocktail hour and reception at Tapestry Hall. They had no assigned seating and no formal meal at the reception. After the cocktail hour and as soon as the wedding party was introduced, they began their speeches which included a performance from Justin's Mom, a lot of roasting of the groom, and heartfelt words from everyone who shared. They wanted everyone to simply party and have a good time, and as soon as speeches were wrapped, that's what happened. Everyone ate the amazing mac and cheese, sliders, and oysters, and the party started with their first dance.
Kate and Justin's first dance was always going to be a highlight of the day, with Kate's dance history and Justin's all-in attitude. They chose to dance to Cryin' by Aerosmith and took lessons to learn this highly choreographed performance. It was absolutely a highlight of the day. Even with some wardrobe malfunctions, they danced with so much confidence and flair. It was amazing. This kicked off the rest of their party, as led by the live band the Test Icicles, and the rest was history.
Congratulations Kate and Justin! What an incredible day!
