In the winter of 2014, Raquel found her sister & best friend talking her into creating an account on a dating app, while sitting in their Williamsburg loft apartment one night. Completely hesitant at first, Raquel finally agreed to it, and appeased them by putting in the least amount of effort possible for her profile. She posted four photos and included zero information in her bio. She was officially on the market. At this same time, Nilton had recently moved to Manhattan and was a well-versed member of dating apps. His profile was beautifully curated, consisting of just the right amount of photos, (including one with his mom, of course), and a brilliant bio that drew Raquel right in. He swiped right. She swiped right. Jury’s still out for who swiped first. They began texting back and forth and planned their first date for a Monday evening. It sounded safe, easy, low-stress - until the impending Winter Storm warnings were flashing through news outlets and suddenly the city was in a state of emergency. Raquel & Nilton had to snow-check their first date and Raquel took this as a sign that maybe it just wasn't meant to be. The day after, with the city still shut down, cabin fever set in, and Nilton asked Raquel to meet him at a wine bar in the East Village. They spent the next 5 hours together in the rather desolate bar, talking, laughing, and completely and undeniably falling for one another. The night ended with Raquel slipping on ice, Nilton catching her, and safely putting her into a cab home. This ended up being Raquel's first & last Tinder date. Within a few weeks of meeting each other, Nilton quickly learned about some of Raquel’s favorite things. Hip hop (specifically Rick Ross), the color orange, her time living in Italy, pop culture, neon signs, typography, fashion and design. Nilton began scouring the web on a daily basis, saving hundreds of photos related to Raquel’s favorite things to a folder, appropriately titled “Rocky” (which he still has saved on his phone to this day). One day out of the blue, he sent Raquel a surprise email with a hand-picked selection of 8-10 photos from the “Rocky” folder. From there on out, Nilton would send Raquel a daily email, with a sweet note about their growing love and more photos from the folder. When it came time to pop the question, Nilton brought it back to the beginning. He designed a custom orange neon sign, (her favorite color!) had it manufactured, and shipped across the country. On a beautiful, sunny, and warm Saturday in June, while Raquel was at work, Nilton mounted the sign smack dab in the center of their living room — surrounded by dozens of roses. When Raquel arrived home, she was asked to close her eyes & was guided into the living room. When she opened her eyes, there it was. Nilton on one knee and the bright, blaring, orange “marry me?” neon sign directly in front of her. She said, "Of course." Nilton & Raquel were married and celebrated their wedding in Brooklyn, NY (where they currently reside), and were blessed to have come across A Little Long Distance's work just weeks after they got engaged. In fact, they were the very first vendor they booked for the wedding. The heart and soul from Josh & Jordyn in the months preceding to wedding left Nilton and Raquel in awe - and the day of the wedding felt as if we had our best friends documenting our love story. We are so thankful for this incredible film that allows us to relive the most important day of our lives, over and over again.
