Wedding Date on Mar 6, 2021

This was a rare wedding for us. Most of our weddings are booked nine months (or more) in advance, and more often than not by the bride or groom. We generally film with two film makers all day. That was certainly not the case for the McFarland Wedding. We were contacted by the maid of honor, Brittany, and explained that she and a group of friends of the couple wanted to gift Rachel and Charles their wedding video. An Evermore Stories wedding video wasn't part of the couples original plans. Luckily, despite being the simple type and wanted a simple no fuss wedding, after finding out I'd been sneakily filming them all day, they responded so well and I've never seen two more grateful people. This wedding presented a number of challenges. First, I had ZERO contact with the couple, making it difficult to plan, not knowing their story or hearing their vision. Second, my very existence was a surprise and I was undercover as an assistant shooter with the photographer. That meant two things, I couldn't direct as much as I am accustomed, and I'd be flying solo, since we couldn't easily explain both an assistant and an assistant to the assistant! During the wedding, I started to feel a little concerned about the limitations and stressed about how I'd manage to provide this couple the same quality we normally deliver in spite of them. That's when I over heard the bride talking about how she'd wished she'd been able to see her grandfather playing the guitar before the wedding. Her grandfather, who suffers from dementia, was a guitar player and before the weddings started chatting up the ceremony musician. He grabbed the guitar and just started strumming. The bride had plans for her grandfather to play at the wedding, but when the time had arrived, he wasn't feeling up to it. She missed it and was a little heartbroken about the missed opportunity. I just so happened to have captured film of grandpa's impromptu jam session, and finding out just how much it meant to Rachel set my heart completely at ease! No, this wasn't our typical wedding, but it was all the more better for it! This five minutes of video footage turned into one of my absolute favorite wedding compilations to date and it's that much more valuable because the couple had no expectations. I'm so honored to have filmed it and I thank her maid of honor for asking me to be a part of it! Congratulations to the McFarlands and their wonderful blended family; a blended family, I was told, that has been blending for 60 years as family friends!
