How did you meet originally and get together? We met the old fashioned way...online!! Our first date was slightly awkward but after our second date we completely hit it off and I knew I’d marry him! Things moved fast and we spent our fourth date in Lisbon! How did the proposal go, if there was one? Darren proposed in Clifden, West Ireland and our dog, Berba, was the ring bearer. We’d the wedding booked before the proposal but he still managed to surprise me as my ring wasn’t due to be ready for another few weeks! Could you sum up your wedding in a couple of sentences – how would you describe the look and feel of the day, the vibe. The day was relaxed and intimate as we had only close family and friends with us. It was so nice to have time to chat with everyone properly and enjoy everyone’s company. We wanted a classic feel and kept the decor to a minimum with touches of greenery and white florals for the bouquets, ceremony and table centerpieces. What was important to you about your wedding- what were your priorities from the very beginning? We wanted something a bit different from the average Irish wedding. I prefer the warmer climates and so I’ve always wanted a wedding abroad and having visited Sicily several times before we felt this would be the perfect location. What made your venue “the one”? As an interior designer, the look and feel of the venue was important to me. I wanted something historic but with a contemporary feel. Once we visited Castello Camemi I knew it was the one. What made the day really special and personal to you? (things you included, unusual elements, things that people made or did for you etc) Darren’s cousin’s wife was our wedding celebrant and it was so lovely having someone we know and love declare us husband and wife! Pauline created a beautiful personalized ceremony and it was one of our favorite parts of the day. What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day? Try not to get stressed about the small stuff and enjoy the day as it will fly by. Try to delegate certain tasks and take the pressure off. We wanted to keep the costs down and opted not to hire a wedding planner so I sourced all the suppliers myself. Everyone I dealt with (excluding the venue) was so professional and friendly and it was much easier to organize than I had expected. Where did you go/are you planning on going on honeymoon? We went to Vulcano which is one of the Aeolian islands off north Sicily. We stayed six nights in the beautiful Theresia resort and had some much-needed chill-out time.
